How to scan a barcode

  1. On the log page, tap Scan barcode at the bottom.
  2. Line up the barcode inside the frame. If the camera won’t read it, tap Enter manually, type the numbers under the barcode and tap ✓.
  3. The food’s page opens. Check the serving size and number of servings, change the time or meal if you like, and tap Log.

If you see “Product not found for barcode” or “Barcode not recognised”, the product isn’t in the food database yet, or a number was typed wrong. Check the numbers, search for it by name, or add it with Manual add.

If the food database has the product but no calories for it, its row says “No calories listed” and Manual add opens with its name already in. Type the calories from the pack and tap Save. Next time it’s in your History like anything else.

A product logged again is one row in History, however its barcode was read. Products you’ve scanned before open without an internet connection; a new one needs a connection.

If Surplus hasn’t asked for camera access before, opening the scanner asks you to allow it. If you said no, the scanner says “Camera access is off.” Tap Enable camera, switch Camera on in Settings, and come back to scan — or tap Enter manually to type the barcode instead.
